There are dogs that are wonderful family pets and then there are dogs that are bound for greater things. Deke came into our lives and demanded our attention. He was strong, strong willed, but still a pleasure to call our dog. As we grew together as handler and dog, I began to realize the enormity of the task we were undertaking. His ability to learn quickly surpassed our ability to train him. With a lot of dedicated help, we began to make headway in Obedience and the CKC Hunt Test game.

To think that a dog could so dramatically change the course of your life, seems silly, but that’s just what happened. He allowed us to enter the dog world, meet people and do activities that we wouldn’t have ever considered possible.

Building a new home and having a kennel full of dogs now seems just a normal way of life. Deke was our foundation dog and we evolved together to become a family. He proudly led the pack and we were so proud of him every step of the journey.
